Scholarships

SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

   During the past 40 years, Central Florida Black Nurses Association of Orlando, Inc (CFBNA) has provided scholarships to assist individuals pursing a nursing career. The scholarships are presented at the Annual Scholarship and Awards Luncheon each September. 

   

SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be a member of CFBNA
  2. Be a resident of Orange, Seminole, Lake or Osceola County.
  3. Accepted or currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program (A.D., B.S.N., Diploma or L.V.N./L.P.N, Masters & Doctoral)
  4. Have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or above
  5. Have a significant financial need.
  6. Show evidence of active participation and/or involvement in community activities.

APPLICATION PERIOD: April 1st – June 30th of each year

Applications sent via US mail must be postmarked by June 30.

 Emailed applications must be received by 11:59pm on June 30.

Applicant must provide:

  1. A fully completed scholarship application
  2. Official transcript from an accredited school of Nursing (mailed to CFBNA & received by June 30th)
  3. Two (2) letters of recommendation (work supervisor, professor, minister, community leader)
  4. Evidence of participation and/or involvement in community service activities
  5. Essay: One (1) typed page max which may include your student nurse activities/projects; your ideas on improving the health status of African Americans, and your long/short term nursing goals.
  6. A professional 3×5 color head shot.

Additional requirement:

  1. Upon notification, personally appear for an interview on July 15, 2024
  2. Attend the scholarship and awards luncheon on Saturday, September 30,2024 (if selected as a recipient)
  3. If selected for a scholarship, recipient must submit a thank you letter to cfbnaoforando@gmail.com prior to receiving your check
  4. Sign a pledge to actively participate in CFBNA activities within 6 months of graduation

Complete each of the following forms:

Mail transcripts to – Central Florida Black Nurses Association, P.O. Box 585142, Orlando, Florida 32858.

COMPLETED APPLICATION MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING

  1. An official transcript from an accredited nursing school.
  2. Completed scholarship application form.
  3. Provide 2 names, addresses, and telephone numbers of your supervisor at work, professor, clergy, or community leader, as a character reference.
  4. Complete application ONLINE and mail transcripts to – Central Florida Black Nurses Association, P.O. Box 585142, Orlando, Florida 32858.

 

SELECTION PROCESS

Provided that completed application, transcripts and references are received by the deadline date, the applicants chosen:

  1. Must conduct a personal and professional interview with the CFBNA Scholarship Committee, time and place TBA
  2. Must be a member of CFBNA
  3. Must be present at the CFBNA Scholarship Banquet
